Couple of questions I'm unclear on...?
I watched the debate last night and I have a couple of questions and statements.
First of all, notice that McCAin did NOT deny the fact that his $5,000 per person health care plan would be taxed. Just throwing that out there.
Secondly, who is going to pay for McCains Homeowner bailout? The government would buy the outrageous loans and get the homeowners loans they can afford. What does that mean for us? The difference has to be made up somewhere. Would our taxes go to pay for it? While I feel bad for the people losing their homes, I don't feel like I should help them pay off their mortgages. I have my own house payment to worry about.
Why hasn't Bush done anything about the little stunt that AIG pulled?
I'm just floored by all of this.
Arlene, it's been said that employers will likely drop their insurance coverage on employees if McCain's proposal is put into action. I don't see how that is going to help anyone. It would actually hurt my family because we have insurance through my husbands employer. As a family of 5, I don't see how $5,000 would pay for squat. We pay more than that per year for all of us. It might help people who currently have no insurance, but what about the rest of us?

| McCain's health care plan would work like this. If you make $25,000 per year, with his plan, you would make $30,000 per year. Which means the extra 5 grand would be taxed by payroll taxes. You would still see a big bunch of the 5 grand. Payroll taxes on 5 grand aren't that much. Think about it . Makes sense to me. |

| Obama didn't talk about his fines imposed on people who can't afford health insurance for their children either. If they are giving the insurance company 5,000 to help lower the health costs for the people getting the coverage, why shouldn't it be taxed as income?
And about the bailout, how is that different then Obama spending so much for all these programs he is talking about doing? He wants to take over the government and tax more! Why are you putting it on the McCain ticket as he is the only one trying to help others out by making others pay for it? |

| by the way, it was pointed out that the $5000 is not per person but per family. It is $2500 for a single individual. You can't buy any health insurance for that amount of money. Actually you couldn't buy one for $5000 either which doesn't come with a $5000 copay...
I don't think he knows who is going to pay for it. but to be honest, I don't think Obama really knows who is going to pay for his plans either. It's just with so much debt everywhere there aren't many places where money can be found without raising taxes for everybody. Just now nobody wants to admit that they have to raise taxes. No matter who wins, eventually they will have to. |

| Actually I am with Arlene, it makes total sense to me. Also, I pay $4000 a year for my health and dental for my family. So this would be a good thing.
As for the housing issue....as much as I support John McCain, this was actually Hilary Clinton's original idea....
You have to stop and think about Obama's health care plan, it will take many US dollars to start a National Health Care....umm....where do you think that would come from? Taxes....Welcome to the US! |

| Bush is in the lame duck category now. No matter what he starts, his term will be finished before congress (who also has many seats up for grabs) will react.
After the elections, AIG and many others like then will pay a price.
You second question of home mortgage bailout is not as easy to explain. Like you I have my mortgage to pay and I showed responsibility and bought a house in my income range. I am not one of the people going to lose due to repo. Unless the entire market collapses. In which case no one will be working and everybody loses.
The value of your present home is dependent upon the value of the others homes in your area. Granted these people who made bad deals should pay, but if we do that than the number of vacant houses will rise and destroy the market value of you home.
This is actually way more complex then if sounds here.
The issue of John McCain's health insurance plan needs a lot of refining but it is a good base.
Obama's health insurance is closer to fantasy land. As liberal as California is, a proposal for universal health care was shot down by over 90% of the state representatives (liberals and conservatives) when the first projections of its cost came in.
Now for the reality. Until the economy is stablized, there will be no health care plans from either side.
Mike
Arlene, you got it wrong. McCain's bill will allow up $5,000 for a single person to buy thier own insurance.
This also allows the employer to supply you with $5,000 worth of free coverage. Any cost over that $5,000 would be taxed. This is tha part of his bill that will need to be reworked to increase that figure to around $10,000 and incourage the increase of participations in PPO programs.
A PPO is nothing like the HMO failures.

| If you make 25k it would be like 30k. Wrong!
If you give me a 5k tax break it is nothing.
I don't pay taxes because my income is way under 10k per year.
I will get nothing.
I make $230 a month.
I have to pay for my son's insurance.
The best deal they give is $130 a month.
I am left with 100 dollars for us to eat.
We can eat on that no problem 30 bucks buys a month's worth of ramen noodles. 60 bucks for car insurance. No gas to drive it but if I don't pay for insurance I loose my license. The plan doesn't account for poor people. Only middle class.
I don't know anyone that makes enough to be middle class.
15 grand is good for around here. All we have is stores and restaurants. Florida is Retirees and service workers caring for the retirees. My son's dream is to wash dishes at Outback Steak House. That is like 9 bucks an hour. Nothing around here pays more. I cannot afford to work. I need a van and some wheelchair batteries and some gas so I could even begin to look, Oh, and a Doctor's note so I can use my SSN again.
Come on folks Nothing is going to fix America now. It is too late.
