Question
does my mobile home disqualify me from the tax credit? about 3 years ago When my grandma died the family sold me the trailer that we lived in for $5000.00 its a 1970's modal trailer and they are sold with a title not a deed. anyway I just bought my first house for 108.000 and i been real excited about the 8000.00 tax thing and now im worried when I do my taxes I wont get it because of the trailer. The bank gave me a first time homeowner loan and all that. So I just dont know I googled all kinds of stuff and it kinda looks like I wont get the 8000 but anyways id appreaciate some feedback. thanks

Sorry, no joy. The trailer is a home, so the tax credit doesn't apply.

Sorry, but owning you mobile home that you lived in any time during the past three years does make you ineligible for the first time homebuyer's credit - the mobile counts as having owned your home.

For purposes of this credit, a mobile home counts as a home. As you owned and lived in a main home within the past 3 years, you do not qualify for the credit. The fact that the prior home has a title and not a deed is irrelevant.

The trailer does count as a home so therefore you do not qualify for the first time homebuyers credit. HR Block -- Tax Advisor I

Since you owned a home, namely your mobile home, in the last three years, you won't be eligible for the credit. Many different things qualify as a home other than a traditional house. A mobile home, a condo, a houseboat, among other things all are considered homes. However, if someone who qualified bought one of these, they would qualify for the credit.
