You are going to have to negotiate with the companies you owe the money to because you can't claim student loans on a bankruptcy

Please read this information from Student Aid on the Web (part of the FAFSA web pages from the U.S. Dept. of Education) on discharging/cancelling a higher eduction loan: * http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/discharges.jsp Sallie Mae is a private student lender. You cannot consolidate a private loan with a Federally subsidized loan. I am sorry you did not learn about student loans - and the pitfalls you should avoid - before you took out the private loans. And, I am sorry you fell for the hype from the for-profit university, Ashford, and its online-only program. Librarians--Ask Us, We Answer! You cannot consolidate a private loan with federal loan. You can consolidate all your private loan with a private lender. However you can't consolidate private loan and federal loan with government program Federal Direct Student Loan Program (FDLP) include consolidation loans that allow students to consolidate Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans, and Federal Perkins Loans into one single debt.
