Why can't USA spend less on welfare handouts and MORE on small business low-interest loans and scholarships?
The idea is to help poor people so long as they have a will to contribute and to be achievers, because eventually they will generate their own income. Throwing money at non-contributing poor is not good for the poor OR the rich.
I always thought if you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day, but if you TEACH him to fish, he will eat for the rest of his life.
What can possibly be a better service for the poor than teaching them how to pay their own way? Even a child knows this. That's why a kid says "Mommy I want to open the garage door, not you, let ME do it!"
It's something called individual liberty, right?
so if we use money to help poor people in the process of generating their own income through small business or education, isn't that much more worthwhile?

| Actually, the government does provide grants and loans for students who qualify for them. Also, the Small Business Administration specializes in providing loans for small businesses. |

| Because the majority of people on welfare are women with children whose husbands have divorced them and abandoned their families. Go look at the actual figures sometime instead of indulging your bigotry.
Furthermore--the people who whine about the "welfare to the non-contributing poor"--entirely on the right wing--are the social group in America that has the HIGHEST divorce rate.
In other words--its THEIR wives and daughters they want to cut welfare payments too--after breaking their vows of marriage.. |

| In most cities there is something called MBE/SBE/LBE (Minority, Small and Local Business Enterprises) connected to the Purchasers Dept. If you qualify for all 3, you are allowed 15% off the highest bid, and have a good chance of winning a city contract. If you're really interested call your local city Purchasing Dept. In terms of poor people; our government is supposed to take care of the least of us. In this country that means children and elderly. If we can give tax breaks to big business, surely we can take care of our children and seniors. After all, seniors for the most part, have contributed to this country for most of their lives. |

| We have a war going on here and the poor people are getting an all expense paid round trip to the Middle East, food and clothing included. Establishing a "legacy" is not an inexpensive task. Many will sacrifice for it but the quest for it, the legacy, will continue. We are taking care of the military industrial complex, have you not heard of "Trickle Down Economics"? The little business will benefit from the trickle down effect.
The poor will benefit by the reduction of their numbers aka collateral damage. Some will benefit by a life time grant in the form of a Service Connected Disability, free medical & dental care, and a monthly check in the amount of upwards of $2527.00 a month for life, with annual cost of living increases each and every year.
And he, or she will have plenty of time to spend fishing, while the middle income are working to pay for those benefits. Ain't life grand?
Join those that served and help "YOUR" prezident establish his "legacy" in the middle east, it is the least YOU can do for YOUR Lord & Saviour. King George lV. Long live the King. |

| amen. Unfortunately, welfare doesn't encourage education. They rather see you work at a low paying job and struggle so they dont have to deal with you anymore than see you get an education and become somebody. |
