We're hoping to refinance as fast as possible and would rather skip the inspection, since we had one when we bought the house two years ago... and we'd rather not have to pay for another. Can we skip it or will most companies require it? Someone mentioned that an appraisal, but not an inspection is necessary--I'm sorry, but what's the difference, I honestly don't know? Your Mortgage company will more than likely require one unless your LTV is very low. Home inspection - no. An appraisal gives the value of the home in the current market based on square footage, age, homes around yours, etc. You probably need an appraisal in order to refinance.
