It wasn't the greatest but it was good enough to know I could easily get a loan if need. I went to go refinance and was told with my score their wasn't anything they could do....Wha-wha-WHAT! I was always like a 710-760 now I am a 602..OUCH! He said I had a collection that went to long (never even knew) and I was 60 days late on another. Simply paying them will only update your account status to a "paid collection" which is still considered negative. Once a collection account has been reported, it will remain on your credit report for 7 years. The only way to improve your credit would be to pay off the collections, but negotiate for a "pay for deletion" agreement, meaning the debt collector agrees to completely remove the collection account from your credit report, if they agree get it in writing, BEFORE you mail them a money order for payment. Not sure if the 60 day late is a late payment on one of your accounts, if it is, it will be reported for 7 years. You can try to contact your lender and explain why the payment was late ask them for a Goodwill Adjustment.
