Financial responsibility for student loans made before marriage?
Say you had $100,000 in debt from federal direct student loans. You account is current but it is current because you have been given a deferment that is set to expire in a year. During that time, you get married. When your student loan deferment expires, you are unable to pay & you default on your loans for some reason. Would they be able to come after your spouse for the amount you owe, even though you were not married when you signed the promissary note nor were you married when the account went into repayment or you requested the deferment that was granted?

How to get student loans to pay for college?
My parents make too much money per year, so I am not eligible for grants or student loans. However they are trying to pay off all of their debt and are not willing to pay the rest of tuition, after all my scholarships.

Are there any student loans that include the cost of paying off a car?
I need to buy a new car, but I'm also planning on going to law school in Sep of 09. I'm planning on buying a modest entry level car for around 17-19km and planning to put 5000 down. However, when I go to school I wont be working and will still have payments. My question is, are there student loans available that could include the cost of paying off the remaining balance of the car at the time?

What happens in student loans under contingent if a disability is filed and a spouse is on the plan?
I am eligible to have my student loans removed due to a severe, lifetime disability, diagnosed five years ago. We did the income contingent plan but since I will have my loans discharged, what happens to my spouses eligibility to ever return to school and get a loan? Does her loans that aren't on the contingent plan combine with ones that aren't?

What is the definition of rehabilitation on student loans, and how does it work?
Hi. I want to go back to college but I have to take care of student loans first. I was told that if your loans go into default, you have to contact the creditor handling the student loans and tell them you what to get into a rehabilitation program? What is rehabilitation and how does it work?
I tried asking my loan officer from my old college about it and he wouldn't give me a straight answer.

Can I put my student loans on a credit card and then declare bankruptcy?
I'm swamped in debt, but have good credit and lots of it. I was thinking about putting my student loans on my credit card (using those handy, low interest checks I get in the mail) and then declaring chapter 7 bankruptcy. Will this work? It seems like a great plan to me. I know it will be on my record for 10 years, but I don't care about that. I'd rather be out of debt completely and then move to another country and start over. Has anyone gotten out of their student loan debt this way?

I have about 50,000 in private student loans and it todays economic environment, no one will consolidate or refinance my loans. I was wondering if its possible to "roll them over" into a federal student loan. Any help is appreciated!

What happens to your student loans if you transfer to a different college?
I transferred to a different college and I was just wondering what happens to the student loans from the other college? There is a grace period of 6 months after I graduate, but does that mean I graduate in general or from the college I took the loans out from?
There are federal loans not private ones.

I just graduated from college and will start to have to pay student loans within the next 5 months (about $13k) . I am also very interested in starting out a retirement account soon. I have been told that I can open an IRA for as little as $50 a month. Should I start to pay off the debt or start a retirement account? What is the best place to invest? I am 23 years old.

How do they process your student loans when you almost at your borrowing limit?
I have around $4500.00 left in student loans, and I have two semester left of college. In the fall, I am taking 15 hours, but in the spring I am only taking six. Will they offer the remaining of my loans for the fall semester, and I can use my pell grant for the spring or will they split the remaining loans between the two semesters?

I had two student loans each about 2,500 dollars each. I have been out of work for 5 years raising my duaghter and haven't been able to afford any kind of payments on the loans. I heard that there is a type of grant or student loan that you can get for college, and you wouldn't have to pay any of it back AS LONG AS you keep your grades above a certain level. If your grades dropped below the required level then you'd have to pay off the loans.
