Question
Is it possible to consolidat my student loans if the creditors are already garnishing my taxes? I am in default of my student loans. They have garnished my 2009 federal tax return. Is there a way that I can have the loans consolidated so that my 2010 tax return will not be garnished?

I doubt it. You need to get a lawyer though and try to figure this mess out. It sucks that you're in this mess because you wanted to get an education- but then again, when you take a loan out you HAVE to pay it back.

To consolidate student loans, there are things that you must do so that you get the job done by the agencies – be they private or governmental – that you have applied through. If you follow each of the things that need to be done – especially keeping to time frames – days and deadlines – you will be able to see your way through having successfully consolidated your loan. The step to consolidate student loans is a very advisable step for students who have availed of the option to take multiple loans. If this is done, then the loan payments are always made on time without a problem. What eases this process is if they are all under one Social Security Number. If the person trying to consolidate student loans wants to get it done under the federal government and they approve of it, then they combine all the loans and the interest rates get reduced. If this gets done, then the payment dates and amount get extended making it easier to pay the loans off at ones convenience.
